Cooper Lewis — An Amazing Amalgam of 21st Century and 19th Century in Logan Circle!

Cooper Lewis Condominium

In 1897, Dr. Samuel Lewis, a successful pharmacist, assigned renowned architect Paul Pelz to design a new building at 1502 14th Street in Logan Circle. Pelz was famed for his landmark achievements including the Library of Congress and Georgetown University’s Healy Hall. In 1925, Edward and Jennie Cooper leased the building from Lewis, and operated the Cooper Hardware store in the Pelz Building for over 50 years.

In recognition of these two families who left an indelible mark on the Logan Circle neighborhood at 14th and P Streets, The Cooper Lewis Condominiums are named in their honor. While the building is a new construction project, creative preservation has enveloped the historic Pelz Building with glass, steel and high-end finishes. Inside, many of the 20 units feature the still-standing brick walls designed by Pelt in 1897. This new landmark is one of Logan Circle’s most praised and prized buildings, located literally on what residents consider the most convenient block in the neighborhood, if not the entire city.
