What do you get when you combine a century-old women’s hospital with superlative new interior design plus popular ground-level retail? The answer is The Columbia in Washington, DC’s West End neighborhood. The Italianate-style complex has been meticulously transformed into 225 condominium residences along with a Trader Joe’s market!

There was just one new listing at this popular address during the month of March. Unit #335 is a roomy 1-bedroom, 1-bath apartment that also includes a separate den/office. Offered at $669,900, the 850-square foot residence boasts hardwood floors throughout, a marble tile bath and a gourmet kitchen with black granite counter, Poggenpohl cabinets and Sub-Zero, Viking and KitchenAid appliances.

It had been listed at $1,339,000.

Also under contract is Unit #306 with 2-bedrooms, 2-baths, warm Cherry EcoTimber hardwood floors and 1,158 square feet of space. A lovely gourmet kitchen matches the reddish hues, while a balcony offers views of Pennsylvania Avenue. The asking price had been $989,000.

Unit #436 closed in March. Originally listed in January for $1,125,000, the final settled price was $1,100,000. The 2-bedroom, 2-bath corner residence has a spacious 1,354 square foot floorplan with wide-plank floors, a big window bay, an open Chef’s kitchen and a Juliet balcony.

Unit #621 also closed in March. The 1-bedroom flat has 850 square feet of living space, with sliding doors leading to a den. Listed at $669,000, the apartment went under contract in just five days, and closed at $655,000.
